Web Content Management: Gartner's Turn

By Dick Weisinger

Forrester released their research results on the leaders in the Web Content Management space less than a month ago. And now Gartner is following up with an update to the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Web Content Management.  This is the first year that Gartner has considered and included WCM vendors in their study that did not also have Enterprise Content Management capabilities.

Forrester’s ranking was as follows:
Leaders: SDL Tridion, Interwoven, And FatWire
Strong Performers: Vignette, Open Text, Day Software, Oracle, and Microsoft
Contenders: IBM And EMCIt is interesting to compare where these same companies fall in the Gartner rankings.
With Gartner, Microsoft ranks considerably lower, and Oracle ranks much higher.

Between the two reports, SDL ranks very high in both, but other vendors are shuffled in their rankings.

Gartner says that WCM is an $860 million industry and accounts for more than 25 percent of the total ECM market.
