Artificial Intelligence: When Bots Take Journalist Jobs

By Dick Weisinger

In June, Microsoft laid off large numbers of journalist and editorial staff from their news organizations. More than 50 jobs were part of the cuts. The replacement to these workers will be intelligent bots that powered by artificial intelligence. The layoffs are part of a continued trend of cutbacks being felt by news organizations.

One of the laid off workers commented that “it is demoralizing to think machines can replace us but there you go.”

It makes you wonder if newspapers and magazines of all sizes are forced to shut down, and news agencies rely more on AI to gather, prepare and curate news stories, can we really get a complete picture of the news or are we reinforcing an echo chamber of the same stories and viewpoints? Maybe news has always been biased, but the news of the future may be biased in different ways.
