ECM: ECM is a Top Priority of Enterprise IT in 2010
ECM is on the minds of Enterprise IT going into 2010. Forrester Research‘s latest survey quizzed IT and knowledge managers about their priorities for the coming year. And ECM is at or near the top of many lists.
Managers are looking into ECM to gain capabilities like search, collaboration, compliance, web content management, and records management. In fact, as many as 72% of the managers said that they’re planning to expand or build out their ECM capabilities in 2010. Only 4 percent felt that there may be a need to scale back on their current capabilities.
One problem the report did come up with is that managers have a hard time proving their expected ROIs, although the most often cited reasons for adopting ECM capabilities was to increase employee productivity and to manage large amounts of data.
Segments within ECM that are driving the interest include (percent cited by respondents):
- 58% Web Content Management
- 47% Records Management
- 40% Digital Asset Management
The very real explosion in the amount of data that businesses are collecting and the variety of rich media content types that IT departments are having to deal with are causing many organizations to decide to invest more in ECM.
