Emerging Technology: Three Trends for Tech Innovation
Gartner recently released updated Hype Cycle graph of emerging technologies for 2021. Gartner studies hundreds of new technologies and picks a list of 25-30 technologies each year that it considers to be ‘must-know technologies’ that they expect will be highly influential or make a significant impact.
Brian Burke, Research Vice President at Gartner, said that “technology innovation is a key enabler of competitive differentiation and is the catalyst for transforming many industries. Breakthrough technologies are continually appearing, challenging even the most innovative organizations to keep up. Your focus on digital business transformation means you must accelerate change and cut through the hype surrounding these technologies.”
Gartner grouped the technologies selected this year into three groups:
Engineering Trust – Technology that provides security and reliability. The technologies in this group include sovereign cloud, decentralized identity, and homomorphic encryption.
Accelerating Growth – Technology that enables businesses to scale. The technologies in this group include multiexperience, industry cloud, and AI-driven innovation.
Sculpting Change – Technology that is disruptive and lets businesses break new ground . Technologies in this area include composable networks and influence engineering.
