Hyperautomation: Choosing the Right Tools for Creating a Composable Modular Architecture
Despite years of ‘re-engineering’, business processes at many companies are broken. Process steps are typically inconsistent, not optimized, and often overlapping. The resultant business processes are inefficient and lack resilience and agility.
The current generation of technology being used to correct, or to at least improve, broken business processes is hyperautomation. Hyperautomation is a term coined by analysts to emphasize the use of more advanced automation techniques to improve business processes, like robotic process automation (RPA), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning.
Gartner ranks ‘hyperautomation’ as a top business trend businesses are deploying in 2022. A Gartner report found that “hyperautomation continues to trend at an unrelenting pace over the past few years, mainly because of accelerating demand for operationally resilient business processes. Hyperautomation is irreversible and inevitable. Everything that can be automated will be automated. Competitive pressures for efficiency, efficacy and business agility are forcing organizations to address it.”
Within recent years RPA has been most closely associated with business automation. But Gartner warns that RPA is just one technology that businesses should be looking at, and that to achieve the best success, it is important to match RPA with other automation tools, like aritifical intelligence, machine learning and event-driven software.
Gartner also recommends using a composable architecture when designing the framework used within the organization. Composability allows different groups within the organization to use the same component in different ways that configure and personalize the component for a specific use case. The result is a composable framework that is very modular and ready to be flexibly reconfigured should the conditions in the environment change.
