Data Management: Data-Centric Enables Data Consistency
The IT paradigm is shifting from one centered on apps to one where data takes center stage. In a data-centric architecture, data is the principal asset and applications help to interact with data but they play the role of support tools rather than the primary focus for IT.

A major advantage of a data-centric approach is that there is a single copy of data, a single source of truth (SSOT). With an app-centric approach, each app needs its own copy of data, and when there are multiple apps, which there usually are, either the use of ‘master data management’ or the tedious copying of data between systems is necessary in order to maintain the consistency of the data.

As data is created or changed, it is made available to all connected information systems—there is no lag waiting for someone to take action and update a deliverable or system and the accuracy of the data is very high. The value of the SSOT is significant, as it provides decision-makers with the most accurate and timely data on which to act.”
