Cloud Computing: CIOs & CSOs Worried about Security
62 percent. That’s close to two-thirds of the CIOs and CSOs from a group of 12,847 business executives that said that they had no faith or confidence in the security of the cloud. Of the 49 percent of the executives that have tried at least limited use of the cloud, more than a third also were not totally comfortable with entrusting data to the cloud.
Interesting, as many as 30 percent of organizations have decided to to make the houtsourcing of their security a priority. It’s gotten too complex and expensive for them to manage and they’ve decided to let security specialists who live and breathe the stuff take the lead. 60 percent of companies have already outsourced the secure disposal of their technology hardware and 59 percent have outsourced the task of performing password resets. Other common security tasks that companies are outsourcing frequently include Web monitoring and filtering, e-mail scanning and storage surveillance.
Many organization now see their partners and suppliers as potential weak links in their security plans. Often partners and suppliers need access to their company’s network, and with the economy weak, many worry that the security controls of those third parties may be deteriorating. In fact, as many as 77 percent say that they worry that their partner’s security has been adversely affected by cutbacks to IT spending due to the recession.
Despite the fact that most IT budgets are flat, many organizations are viewing security in a different light. 52 percent of companies expect to increase spending on security at least 10 percent over the next year, with 9 percent increasing their spending by more than 30 percent.
