Facilities Management: Businesses Slowly Move Away From Management-By-Excel
A recent survey by the Service Works Group in association with the FMA and i-FM, identified emerging trends in the Facilities Management space. One trend is a move from the use of spreadsheet management to the use of more-comprehensive targeted Facilities Management software.
In general, the Service Works Group survey found that most users of Facilities Management software satisfied.
- 80 percent thought that the software saved them money
- 91 percent said that they’re more efficient because of the software
- 90 percent said that Facilities Management software provides them with better quality data and improved auditability
The 2012 survey found that 17 percent of businesses relied primarily on Excel spreadsheets to manage their systems. That number had dropped to just 9 percent in the 2013 survey.
Increasingly businesses are using SaaS or managed hosting systems in order to reduce the need for up-front capital expenditures. 75 percent of businesses currently host their FM software in-house, while 25 percent are using managed hosting.
Additionally, businesses are integrating their Facilities Management systems with other systems like finance and building management system.
