Cloud Computing: Oracle report Points to Cloud App Integration Issues
The ride to the cloud hasn’t necessarily been a smooth one for all businesses. Oracle recently commissioned a report from Dynamic Markets to study the success with which the cloud is being deployed in the enterprise. A key focus of the study was on how well businesses were able to integrate the various cloud application offerings that they’ve deployed. Oracle, long a naysayer and critic of the cloud, seems to have changed of late, jumping into the cloud market with a number of new offerings, but the bulk of this report’s contents echo some of Oracle’s early-on criticism, reflecting negatively on the cloud.
The report concludes that ” the adoption of cloud apps across the world is remarkably high and in all departments, but that integration problems are endemic”. The report points out a number of ramifications resulting from problems with their cloud integration:
- 54 percent of departments say that they’ve experienced staff downtime in the last six months
- 52 percent of organizations say that they’ve missed deadlines
- 83 percent say that cloud integration problems mean that they’re not able to realize the full benefits that cloud applications offer
- 75 percent felt that problems with cloud integration impacted their ability to innovate
- 50 percent of companies have abandoned the user of at least one department cloud app in the last three years because of cloud integration issues
- 68 percent of cloud adopters have attempted to integrate their cloud applications, but 55 percent of those projects have failed
- 42 percent of companies have had a date breach associated with their use of a cloud application
