Cloud Computing: Drop in Cloud Pricing Encourage Enterprises to Consume and Spend Even More
Here are some updated cloud facts:
- Even while cloud prices continue a relentless drop in price, overall spending on the cloud continues to accelerate.
Lower prices entice new enterprise customers into using the cloud. Both large and medium-sized businesses plan to spend more on cloud infrastructure in 2014. - Cloud use in the enterprise is split between those who monitor their spending on a daily basis (41 percent) versus those organizations that monitor the bill occasionally. Near real-time monitoring of IT spending with on-premise infrastructure is nearly impossible, but can be easily done with the cloud.
- Pricing is important to businesses, but features and performance typically trump the importance of cost in the eyes of Enterprise IT.
- Businesses plan to accelerate their movement of applications to the cloud (37 percent will move more apps than last year and 35 percent will run more cloud pilots compared to last year).
- The hockey-stick effect of IT purchases rapidly climbing near the end of the year is alive and well in the cloud. Nearly 35 percent of cloud spending occurs during the months of October to December.
