Technology Market: Bubble or Not?
IT Industry business confidence is slipping. A business confidence index, as measured by the computer industry trade association CompTIA, dropped in the third quarter from 61.3 to 60.1 in the second quarter. The scale is based on surveys taken of IT executives and covers questions about the general economy, the tech industry, and also their own companies.
The drop might be considered a blip, especially given the fact that three-quarters of those surveyed said that they are well ahead of their target sales goals for the year. 80 percent of large companies, 93 percent of medium-sized companies, and 74 percent of small companies all said that their sales were on track for the year. This despite reports by Gartner, Forrester and IDC that adjusted downward their IT tech spending forecast for the year.
The CompTIA report also dug a bit deeper and uncovered the worries of IT executives. These include:
- 44 percent are concerned about price-sensitive customers
- 28 percent are worried that increasing IT salaries will pressure their business
