Big Data: SAP Customers Question ROI of In-Memory HANA
Headlines from SAP boast a 422% ROI from the use of SAP HANA for Big Data Analysis. An SAP blog reports that an IDC study of the University of Kentucky found identified over 500% ROI with HANA.
But according to a study by the Americas’ SAP Users’ Group (ASUG) which polled SAP partners and customers, that most companies don’t think that they’ll see any ROI with HANA. Three quarters of SAP users say that they don’t have a use case that justifies the cost of HANA. And the SAP partner perspective is that SAP really needs to provide better Use Cases in order for partners to be able to better sell the solution.
The top four issues that the ASUG found with HANA are lack of Use Cases, lack of skills to implement solutions, unclear roadmap, and upgrade issues.
Holger Mueller, analyst for Constellation Research, said that “these are not surprising results, but typical for a vendor innovating massively and radically as SAP does with HANA. It always takes time for customers and partners to get their arms around innovation.”
