PLM: The Design Leader of the North American Auto Show
| With the 2008 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) taking place in Detroit, January 19 – 27, car makers are doing whatever it takes to grab people’s attention. Not much can top Chrysler’s gimmick to drew attention to its new Dodge Ram 1500 truck by driving a herd of 120 cattle through the city’s streets of Detroit.
But Dassault Systemes made news at the auto show too: 75 percent of the 27 concept cars that were introduced at the show were designed using Dassault’s CATIA, the company’s 3D design authoring component of their PLM system. |
As auto makers chase market share, they are trying to crank out as many new models as they can as fast as they can, and CATIA is helping auto makers shrink the time to go from design to prototype. The number of new vehicle models at the show has increased by 33 percent over the past 10 years. Software packages like CATIA are simplifying the design process, freeing the designer from mundane calculations and encouraging greater innovation and creativity.
Today all major automobile manufacturers have at least some of Dassault’s PLM components: CATIA, DELMIA, ENOVIA and SIMULIA. The products help save money and time while enabling the delivery of high quality products.
