Search Technology: Google Squables Over Vendor's Claims
Google has taken issue with claims about its Enterprise Search Appliance from Enterprise Search company Autonomy. Autonomy had published a whitepaper critiquing Google Enterprise search. The criticisms include:
- The Google Appliance fails to search all enterprise-critical data
- The Google Appliance lacks enterprise-grade security
- The Google Appliance search results often are not very relevant
- The Google Appliance does “not offer the advanced retrieval or automatic information operations required by the enterprise“
- Google Enterprise “searches all critical content in the enterprise, including file shares, intranets, databases, and real-time business data – all from one simple search box”.
- “The Google Search Appliance provides out-of-the-box support for multiple security access control systems (such as SAML standards, SSO, NTLM, etc.).
- “The Google Search Appliance supports document-level security with all content sources, which ensures that end-users see only those documents in the results list to which they have access.”
- “More than 50% of our customers switched to Google because of our higher relevancy”
As the race to capture the quickly evolving enterprise search space heats up, so is the intensity of the competition among the small number of vendors in this market.
