Data Analytics: Businesses Say Analysis Takes Too Long

By Dick Weisinger

The biggest gripe that businesses have with Data Analytics is that it takes too long, according to a survey by Researchscape International and sponsored by Data Intensity.  Nearly two-thirds of businesses using data analytics cited that issue in the survey.

Other issues that businesses have with data analytics include:

  • Data quality.  Inaccurate data skews any attempt to make decisions from it. — 33 percent
  • Data access — 29 percent
  • Poor technical support from IT — 13 percent

Paul Grone, CIO of Totes Isotoner, said that “it’s essential that enterprises build strong platforms for supply chain analytics to better understand their customers and markets and compete on a global basis. The problem is that analytics must constantly evolve to meet demanding data and business requirements.”

When asked what characteristics an ideal data analytics platform should have, respondents answered as follows:

  • Data analysis-as-a-service — 58 percent
  • Data modeling – 47 percent
  • Business consulting – 43 percent
  • Dashboard development – 42 percent
  • Master data management – 36 percent
  • Mobile data analytics – 34 percent
  • Merging internal data with external data (industry benchmarks, market demographics, etc.) – 30 percent
  • System implementations and architecture – 24 percent
  • Social media data analytics – 24 percent
  • Extract, transform, load (ETL) capabilities – 21 percent
