Cloud Computing: Nearly One Third of IT Infrastructure Spending is Going to the Cloud

By Dick Weisinger

Spending on cloud infrastructure now makes up 30 percent of total IT infrastructure according to IDC.  The estimate is based on numbers from first quarter 2015 and is a jump from 26.4 percent in first quarter 2014.

Kuba Stolarski, Research Manager at IDC, said that “Cloud IT infrastructure growth continues to outpace the growth of the overall IT infrastructure market, driven by the transition of workloads onto cloud-based platforms.  Both private and public cloud infrastructures have been growing at a similar pace, suggesting that customers are open to a broad array of hybrid deployment scenarios as they modernize their IT for the 3rd Platform, begin to deploy next-gen software solutions, and embrace modern management processes that enable agile, flexible, and extensible cloud platforms.”

The market standing among cloud infrastructure vendors is:

  • HP – 15.7 percent market share
  • Dell – 11.9 percent share
  • Cisco – 9.3 percent share
