Enterprise Software: What’s Wrong With Enterprise Software? Everything?

By Dick Weisinger

Enterprises are spending $3.5 trillion dollars on business software every year, according to research by Gartner.
If businesses can spend that much, why are employees griping?  The problem is that change is hard — both to afford and to actually realize.

A recent piece by eWeek summarizes some of the hurdles businesses find to changing enterprise software, as presented by Natalie Lambert, vice president of marketing at Sapho.

  • Enterprise software is behind employee expectations.
  • Legacy software is draining IT budgets and make it hard to come up with funds for new software
  • Remote access to old software is hard
  • Employees are overloaded with many passwords for the various enterprise apps they need to access
  • Upgrades from legacy software is hard, whether you upgrade to more on-premise or to SaaS apps
  • Employees often don’t get enough training on enterprise apps to be productive
  • Enterprises fear security risks, and as a result, often limit mobile access
