Internet of Things (IoT): Analytics is Key as Adoption Grows

One-third of large businesses have already begun implementing IoT solutions, according to IDC.  Another 43 percent are considering to roll out IoT systems within the next 12 months.  The numbers seem high, but IoT is gaining interest quickly among businesses.

Other findings of the IDC report include the following:

  • More than half of businesses say that IoT will be strategic to the way they operate
  • Benefits of IoT
    • 24 percent – productivity
    • 22 percent – time to market
    • 22 percent – process automation

An important factor in acceptance of IoT will be the use of analytics.  Nico Genet, director of IoT and co-founder of SMG3, told CRN that  “you need to use the next level of analytics because end users want to see more beyond just the hardware. With any ruggedized device, end users want to go deeper. That next phase [of IoT] is happening; customers want to use the data faster and more wisely.”
