Cloud Computing: A Long-Term Strategy Rather Than Short-Term Tactical One

By Dick Weisinger

The cloud is the number one technology that IT professionals say will impact their companies, according to a recent study by Pluribus.  The cloud is rated higher than other technologies like desktop virtualization and converged infrastructures.

  • 14 percent of IT workers feel that their IT department is up to the challenge of meeting all the needs of their business
  • IT workers overwhelming feel that investments in their company network is a strategic investment as opposed to a tactical one
  • 93 percent of IT workers think that in order for their businesses to achieve digital transformation, their companies will need to increase IT staffing

The Pluribus report found that “when looking at the top nine new technologies in the IT space (server virtualization, cloud services, containers, software-defined networking, mobile/tablet computing, converged infrastructure, virtual desktop infrastructure, and Big Data and Hadoop), in practically every one, more than 50 percent of IT professionals said that they are either deploying the new technology or actively researching it. This means the majority of organizations are considering, piloting or deploying a wide range of the newest IT technologies.”
