Analytics: Embedding Analytics Proves More Usable Than Self-Serve
With all the hype around self-serve cloud-based analytics, could the reality be that people aren’t using it? That’s a conclusion from a recent report by Logi Analytics.
The Logi Analytics report found that self-service analytics usage is actually down 20 percent when compared to two years earlier. How an that be? The report says that instead of dedicated analytics software, embedded analytics is the area in this sector that’s growing. The study found that two-thirds of the IT groups surveyed are using embedded analytics. A mean reason for this is that embedded analytics is more easily available and simpler to use.
And, despite the potential power of self-serve analytics, the report found that Excel still offers a lot of competition. It is something that everyone is familiar with and is easy to use. Jen Underwood, founder and principal consultant at Impact Analytix, said that “Excel export is in the top three most wanted features from analytics tools. We can safely say self-service BI tools are not replacing the unique value of Excel. Changing human behaviour is the fundamental challenge to conquer. Thus embedding analytics into the apps the business already uses might just be the magical BI adoption formula for truly becoming a data-driven organisation.”
