Cloud Computing: Number of Cloud Applications to Surpass On-Premise in 2017

By Dick Weisinger

IDG recently released a report of their survey on cloud computing which provides more data points to document the rapid adoption of cloud computing across global businesses.

  • US businesses on average are budgeting $1.77 million for the cloud in 2017
  • Businesses are using multiple cloud models, including private (62 percent), public (60 percent), and hybrid (26 percent)
  • By 2017 the average IT department will only have 40 percent of their applications on-premise

Brian Glynn, chief revenue officer at IDG, said that “we are at a time where companies are not asking if cloud should be used, but how. Enterprises are leading the way on what is possible. Given their human and capital resources they are able to fully test cloud options to help them innovate and provide strong solutions to their customers.”

Paul Lidsky, Datalink President and CEO of Datalink, said that “modernizing and streamlining the data center is imperative for IT departments in order to deliver the agility and flexibility required by their businesses, both today and in the future.”
