Technology: Mixed Acceptance of Enterprise 2.0

By Dick Weisinger

Use of Enterprise 2.0 software greatly improves employee productivity.
Use of Enterprise 2.0 software can reduce employee productivity.
Which is true? Both according to a report by McKinsey and Company: Building the Web 2.0 Enterprise. In their survey of nearly 2000 executives, the report finds that 20% of the companies represented found that Enterprise 2.0 software achieved a better user experience, meaning the tools were positively received and widely used. On the other hand, another 20% of the companies said that their Enterprise 2.0 deployments did not work and were being phased out.

Those companies seeing the benefits said that their internally facing application helped in managing knowledge and promoted greater collaboration. Externally facing applications can help improve the acquisition of customers, improve customer service, and create more effective collaboration between suppliers and partners.
