Cloud Services: Cloud Computing Saves, but Optimizing Cloud Usage Could Save Much More
As cloud usage grows. people are saving money over their on-premises solutions, but they’re also becoming very aware that they could be saving even more if they were only able to more effectively use cloud services. Many cloud users know that their usage is inefficient, but very few have been able to do anything about that. That’s according to the new report on cloud usage by RightScale.
The report also finds that while both Microsoft and Google are getting more customers, Amazon is still very far in the lead in providing public cloud services.
The RightScale report also found that:
- The public cloud continues to make inroads while both private and hybrid cloud adoption fell last year, 4 percent and 5 percent respectfully, bringing these rates to 72 percent and 67 percent.
- 85 percent of enterprises use multiple cloud platforms.
- The average enterprise user accesses four different cloud platforms, 1.8 public and 2.3 private.
- RightScale estimates that 45 percent of cloud resource use is wasted because allocated resources go unused or because more expensive cloud resources are deployed than actually needed.
