Internet of Things (IoT): Integrating IoT Insights into Enterprise Software
By adopting the Internet of Things (IoT), businesses are able to monitor, track, schedule and control processes, sensors and devices in the field. Real-time monitoring provides a level of insight and control that previously wasn’t possible.
These are still the early days of IoT, and unfortunately now, there is still a disconnect between the reams of data and analytics coming from IoT and other systems within the enterprise. One example is with ERP — there has been little attempt to try to integrate IoT data with things like work orders, production schedules or fault reports. The data that IoT could feed into other enterprise software could potentially bring along with it huge benefits to the business.
Rick Veague, Chief Technology Officer at IFS, said that “IoT is a very specific thing. Digital Transformation is a concept. Trying to correlate these things is difficult. The potential for IoT in these settings is business growth. In order to realize this benefit, companies must not only think more creatively about IoT, but be able to use IoT data in the context of their business, which likely means tighter integration with applications like ERP.”
