Enterprise Search: An Elusive Goal
Enterprise Search is still not there yet. A vendor-sponsored study by Recommind of satisfaction around companies and their use of existing Enterprise Search Solutions
reveals the short-comings of the current technology. The survey found that users are able to successfully search and find information only about 50 percent of the time.
Search software is still vexed by a myriad of file formats and email stores. People expect searches to be smart enough to supplement search over internal information with information that’s also available on the public internet. Users want to be able to sift through all sources of data in a single search. People don’t want to be baffled by complex search forms, but on the flip-side, single-field enterprise search modeled on Google internet search, just don’t cut it — they have a difficult time of pin-pointing information and the context that the user is searching.
Finding the happy medium between high search accuracy and ease-of-use has been an elusive goal. But with so many companies targeting enterprise search, it should only be a matter of time. But how much more?
