Digital Transformation: Is Your Business Poised for Disruption or to be Disrupted?
Is your business a disruptor or one that is poised to be toppled by disruption? Which side of the coin are you on?
A recent survey by Dimensional Research and funded by Alfresco found that the odds are pretty even for which side of the line companies think that they’re on. 50 – 50. 50 percent think that they will be leaders on the disruptor side, and the other 50 percent worry that they will be threatened by disruption. Maybe both sides are right, but who will be the disruptors and how can you position your business to be on that side of the line?

The results of the Dimensional Research study found that oddly, or maybe perversely, at 65 percent, telecom companies are the most likely to say that their business is positioned to be a disruptor, despite a number of “ripe for disruption” lists where telecom typically ranks high. The dynamics and operations of telecom may be something that is disrupted, but the infrastructure and cash of the incumbents may favor their long-term domination.
65 percent of technology businesses say that they will disrupt. That seems surprisingly low. It’s hard to think of a technology company without a sales rep with a slide deck in their back pocket that contains a future vision of nirvana enabled by the evolution of their products.
John Newton, founder and CTO of Alfresco, said in the press release of this recent study, that “today’s corporate leaders must realize that digital disruption is happening, and it’s happening right now. Those who don’t have a digital strategy in place and IT modernization initiatives underway are not likely to survive.”
