Records Management: At What Level of Competency is Your Organization?

By Dick Weisinger

How does your organization’s Records Management implementation rank in level of competency/maturity with your peers? AIIM has announced an on-line questionaire that can be used to rank the level of maturity of your organization. The assessment tool asks a total of 13 questions divided among the three categories of staff training, corporate policies and technology investments. Depending on how you have answered those questions, the tool grades the organization, and rates the organization on a five-stage competency scale.

Atle Skjekkeland, vice president of AIIM, commented that “this assessment will help organisations focus on achieving the next step towards a united and proactive approach to managing records regardless of the source.”

For example, in the Technology section, one question is:
“How would you best characterize your records management technology?”
– Fileing Cabinets and paper stores.
– RM of vital paper records and networked shared drives for electronic documents
– Point solution repositories for office productivity and image stores
– Dedicated Records Management solution with workflows
– Records Management solution integrated with all enterprise systems (ERM, CRM, HR, …) and with all types of communication (email, IM, Collaboration, …)
