Digital Transformation: Culture Slows Digitization Efforts in Government
Governments are being left out. Businesses are increasingly digitizing and automating their processes, governments are lagging behind. Despite the goals or adopting digital transformation, governments are stumbling and having problems scaling their digitization efforts.
Dean Laheca, research director at Gartner, said that governments have “a lack of effectiveness by government organisations at scaling their digital business… If there is no urgency to act, or if the culture is not ready to accept change, progress will remain slow.”
What’s causing governments to be so slow in digital adoption? Gartner cites two causes:
- Digital strategies planned don’t line up with government priorities
- The culture of government employees needs to be able to accept change. Without that progress will be slow.
Lacheca said that “a digital workplace program is the most effective way to bring together a higher standard of workplace technologies with the development of digital skills needed to increase digital dexterity. Government CIOs should work with HR to assess the current state of digital dexterity and develop an organization-wide program.”
