One section of the report reviewed the explosive increase of data collection and analysis.
Data Volume + Utilization = Evolving Rapidly and Broadly
Meeker quotes Frank Bien, CEO and President of Looker, saying “data is now fundamental to how people work and the most successful companies have integrated it into everyone’s daily workflow… Data is the new application.”

“Data Plumbing Tools” are seeing growth. These tools are classified into three groups:
- Collecting data – Improve Products and Processes. Manage customer and subscriber relationships.
- Managing Connections – Organizing internal and external communication. Better communication with customers using multiple channels.
- Optimizing Data – Improve analytics, recommendations and personalization. Business insights. Fulfillment Optimization.
The cloud is overtaking data stored on-premise in enterprises and locally by consumers.
