ECM: 8 Reasons to Select ECM
Inspired by an AIIM seminar led by AIIM president John Mancini, Lauren McKay, writing for Destination CRM, summarized eight top reasons why ECM is important for businesses today:
- Huge growth of Information. Mancini cites IDC’s estimate of a 10-fold growth in data from 2006-2011 with 30 percent of that growth driven by data collected for business purposes.
- Move towards always-on access. Mancini says that information is becoming a commodity.
- Popularity of Social Media. Social media can be used by companies to establish a collabortive infrastructure.
- Collaboration needs Governance. Lack of planning can result in unused ‘digital landfills’.
- Current Information Management Software has too many features. Software needs to simplify. Mancini cites the iPhone as an example of a well-designed interface.
- Information Management can mean Green. Implemented correctly, IM can save money by replacing current methods based on paper
- Manual Processes are Expensive. Costs for simple tasks like re-filing, photocopying and searching for paper documents add up quickly to big dollars.
- Legal pressures. Costs involved in searching for information related to litigation and eDsicovery can be extremely expensive if you are not prepared.
Information management when done correctly can help you keep less data and find relevant information faster which ultimately translates to helping you save money.
