Artificial Intelligence: Middle Management Jobs at Risk

By Dick Weisinger

Artificial intelligence is increasingly being used to automate job tasks across nearly all industries. Now, Gartner says that even managerial tasks will be targets for AI automation.

Gartner estimates that nearly 69 percent of the job functions of existing managers today can be automated by AI.

Middle management tasks involved with project planning, job assignment and tracking are most at risk. Tasks which require intuition, empathy and interpersonal skills will be the most difficult type of tasks to automate.

Helen Poitevin, Research Vice-President at Gartner, said that “the role of manager will see a complete overhaul in the next four years. Currently, managers often need to spend time filling in forms, updating information and approving workflows. By using AI to automate these tasks, they can spend less time managing transactions and can invest more time on learning, performance management and goal setting.”
