Big Data and Analytics: What to Expect in 2017

By Dick Weisinger

In a nutshell, we can expect the hype around Big Data to continue well into 2017 and beyond.  Next year we can expect to see companies that have been more cautious or skeptical of big data hype to begin at least limited adoption.

What are the components and trends of Big Data in 2017?

  • Internet of Things (IoT) – IoT is positioned to be a major engine for generating massive amounts of data.  IoT and Big Data are complementary technologies.
  • Deep Learning – Deep Learning is able to identify patterns from massive amounts of otherwise unlabeled data without human supervision or intervention.
  • In-Memory Analytics – The loading of large amounts of data into fast RAM memory to speed analysis.
  • More Cloud – Business will be further drawn to using the cloud.  Expect to see a big data cloud ecosystem begin to take shape.
  • Apache Spark –  An big data open source project now bigger than Hadoop that is also dramatically faster and easier to program than Hadoop.
