Cloud Computing: SMBs Find Benefits in Cloud Computing

By Dick Weisinger

Because of their size, SMBs have been more nimble than bigger companies in migrating IT operations to the cloud. A recent report by BetterCloud found that only about about a quarter of large companies have the majority of their applications already running in the cloud.  Compare that to 38% of SMBs already running ‘almost entirely’ on SaaS and cloud infrastructure.  By 2020, 69 percent of large companies will have moved to the cloud, compared to more than 75 percent of SMBs.

The survey by BetterCloud found that SMBs are very satisfied with their use of the cloud.  Small companies that have migrated to the cloud report the following benefits:

  • Reduction in email
  • Reduction in number of meetings
  • Increased customer satisfaction
  • Better positioned to attract good talent

The BetterCloud report found that “larger enterprises are slower to act, but once they do, they add legitimacy, turning a fringe trend to a mainstream mainstay. In regards to SaaS adoption, that tipping point has occurred.”

David Politis, founder and CEO of BetterCloud, said that “SaaS is a double-edged sword – while it brings incredible benefits, it also creates formidable challenges that are taking the roles and responsibilities of IT to new extremes.”
