Digital Transformation: Lack of Bandwidth, Skillsets and Vision Block IT’s Progress

By Dick Weisinger

Businesses will spend $1.7 trillion by the end of 2019 trying to transform themselves to become digital operations, according to a forecast from IDC. But as many as three-quarters of those businesses will fail to meet their digital objectives. The most frequently cited reason why businesses fail is lack of technical innovation.

A survey by Commvault found that most IT executives and personnel don’t think their businesses are ready for digital transformation.
The survey found the following areas to be problems:

Lack of Bandwidth – IT is too busy with day to day operations to have time to think about innovation
Lack of Skill sets – 50 percent of IT say that they must acquire new skill sets to stay relevant
Lack of Technology – Two-thirds say that they are not prepared for the cloud or data management
Lack of Vision – 40 percent say their company doesn’t have a formal plan for digital transformation
Lack of Data Access – 60 percent of IT say they have access to less than half their organization’s data.
