ECM: What's in Store for 2009?

By Dick Weisinger

With the economy expected to be down for some time going forward, new twists are ahead in the ECM market.
CMS Watch has made some predictions about what we might expect.

Expect consolidation, especially around Web Content Management:  WCM companies merging to get bigger, and pure DM companies expanding
into the realm of WCM.

Expect higher discounts on up-front software licenses, although not likely extended to services, maintenance and consulting.
Expect more interest in Open Source ECM solutions like Alfresco, but understand that Open Source deployments will require consulting and services.

CMS Watch also predicts that Oracle may stumble in the coming year around ECM because they haven’t kept up thier investments around ‘knowledge worker-facing technologies’.

And finally, Microsoft is targeting a new release of SharePoint in late 2009.  So we can save that one until 2010 as a prediction.
