By Dick Weisinger

Low-code software development is gaining momentum. Software Development Times declared 2021 to be the ‘Year of Low Code.Gartner is forecasting that the low code market will reach $13.8 billion in 2021, an increase of more than 22 percent over the previous year.

A survey by KPMG found that more than a quarter of executives said that low- and no-code development platforms was their most important automation investment and that 100 percent of all businesses that implemented low and no-code platforms said that those platforms have delivered positive ROIs.

Fabrizio Biscotti, research vice president at Gartner, said that “while low-code application development is not new, a confluence of digital disruptions, hyperautomation and the rise of composable business has led to an influx of tools and rising demand.”

John Bratincevic, senior analyst at Forrester, said that “low code is an incredible way to build adaptability in. So to me that’s the big thing. Citizen development, democratization, technology being business people’s business — that’s not just a myth, there’s absolutely people that are pursuing it quite actively and I see it work out in some pretty cool places and it seems like a very important part of the formula for adaptability, for changing the software you have in this really fast, ongoing way.”
