Open Source: Roadblocks To Acceptance

Open Source is gaining wider acceptance in the enterprise, but organizations are still hesitant. The main reasons that they are wary are security, complexity, and support.

Forrester Research found that 58 percent of large companies said that they worry about Open Source security. The concern among small and medium sized companies is even higher with 66 percent expressing concern.

Besides security, organizations are also worried about ease of implementation. 57 percent of small and medium sized businesses thought that Open Source adoption would be a complex and difficult undertaking, while only 32 percent of large companies had that concern.

68 percent of small and medium businesses also consider lack of support to be a major concern around Open Source. 47 percent of large companies had that concern.
