No one and no business is safe from attacks by cyberhackers.  But because of their size and much deeper pockets, big businesses have had more available funds to spend on security.  Small and mid-size businesses are less likely to be able to dedicate either much money or time toward security,and that can be unfortunate.

Ponemon found in a 2017 study that 61 percent of small and medium sized businesses had suffered data breaches over the course of a year.  The report listed some of the security challenges that smaller businesses face:

  • Lack of funds
  • Lack of expertise
  • Lack of information and timing
  • Lack of time
