Social Media: How Are Businesses Addressing the Challenge

In a report from AIIM on how Social Media is affecting businesses and the way that they operate, the following survey findings are reported:

  • 43 percent of organizations bar their employees from accessing social media sites
  • 44 percent of organizations have no written policy or guidance about the use of social media
  • 55 percent of all employees think that the use of internal Social Media tools is important or very important to the success of their business
  • 43 percent of all employees think that the use of external-facing Social Media is important or very important to the success of their business
  • Benefits of internal Social Media  most frequently cited include knowledge sharing, faster answers to questions, and reduced use of multi-addressed emails
  • Disadvantages of internal Social Media most frequently cited include no archival of content data and no integration with other business systems
  • 57 percent of company web sites do not offer any kind of Social Media engagement with their customers
  • 87 percent of organizations are not monitoring Social Media sites to see how their organization or brand are being represented
