Structured Data: Businesses Move Databases to the Cloud

By Dick Weisinger

Businesses databases are being redeployed into the cloud at a rapid pace.

Garter forecasts that by next year more than three-quarters of all databases will be running from the cloud. By 2023, half of revenues for the total database market will be from cloud databases.

The largest cloud database providers are Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google GCP.

But migration to the cloud won’t be happening over night.

Donald Feinberg, Gartner analyst, said that “most larger organizations have huge applications and a huge amount of data. So, even if they commit 100% to the cloud, it would take them five or more years to completely migrate.”
