Technology: Where VC’s See Opportunity

By Dick Weisinger

The US still is the best place to invest in startups say Venture Capitalists (VC’s) according to a survey of 331 globally-located VC’s by Deloitte & Touche LLP.  Despite that, when VC’s were asked if their government is developing an environment that will foster startups and new businesses, the US VC’s gave the US government a ranking that put them in last place.

Venture Capitalists rate the best countries to invest in as the United States, Israel, Canada and Germany.  Countries where VC’s are losing confidence include Brazil, India and China.

The sectors that have seen the greatest growth in investments from Venture Capitalists are healthcare, clean technologies and robotic companies.  Cloud Computing/SaaS and Mobile remain as the top two areas for investment, followed by Healthcare IT and Enterprise Software.

Jim Atwell, national managing partner of the Emerging Growth Company practice, Deloitte & Touche, said that “for the past three years the U.S. has seen a significant increase in investor confidence, continuing the trend which began to take hold in 2012.”
