The Mobile Enterprise: Government Adopts Mobile to Process Documents

By Dick Weisinger

Mobile devices are beginning to change the way that businesses work.  A report by Good Technology found that 67 percent of enterprises have increased their usage of mobile devices and applications.  Among businesses and organizations, document processing mobile applications are some of the most popular.  Top mobile apps among businesses include home-grown custom apps, secure browser, document access, instant messaging and document editing.

Government/public sector in particular is adopting mobile apps to assist with document processing.  47 percent of apps activated in the public sector were for document editing and 23 percent of apps were for document access.

Chris Roberts, Good Technology’s vice president of public sector, told FedScoop that “the document-based workflow growth in public sector was unique.  While a few industries have roughly 50 percent of their apps focused on document workflows, public sector was substantially higher than any other industry with 70 percent.”

The Good Technology report also found that 79 percent of apps activated by government employees are happening on Apple iOS devices.
