Artificial Intelligence: AI Usage Patterns by AI Pioneers

By Dick Weisinger

An MIT Sloan study of more than 3000 global organizations and their use of AI identified four groups of adopters:

  • Pioneers
  • Investigators
  • Experimenters
  • Passives

The groups called Pioneers are those that have a good understanding of AI and have AI implementations.  The report found that Pioneers are the groups which are deriving the most benefits from AI.  Four trends noted among Pioneers include:

  • Pioneers have already invested in AI, but they continue to deepen their investment
  • Pioneers attempt to scale up point AI solutions in their organizations
  • Pioneers prioritize revenue-generating applications over cost-saving ones
  • AI creates both fear and hope among workers
