Formtek released version 2.3 of the Version Browser for Alfresco 5.1 earlier this week.  The Formtek Version Browser is an extension to Alfresco One ECM that enables easy visual comparisons of versioned documents.

The biggest addition to this release of the Version Browser is the ability to do side-by-side version comparison.  The screenshot below shows version 2 of a document in the left view panel and version 1 of the same document on the right.  The two viewers are independent and allow you to zoom, pan or move to any page of the document.  It is also possible to open the same version in each of the two viewers.  The Version Browser allows easy comparison of any two versions.

Features of the Version Browser include:

  • File Support – Office documents, PDF, and images.  Additional file formats can easily be supported.  For example, add the Formtek EDM extension to view DWG and other AutoCAD file formats.
  • No downloads needed – Detailed visual previews of each version eliminate the need to download specific versions for off-line comparison.
  • Full Functional Viewer – The Version Browser viewer supports paging, zoom and pan, and full screen maximization.  Search and find text in the version.
  • Delete – With appropriate permissions, any version of the document can be deleted.
  • Restore Versions – Easily restore a previous version of the document.
  • Undo – Remove the current version and revert to the previous version
  • Unique Version Metadata – Each version retains metadata properties with values from the time when the version was active.
  • Track Ownership and see Version History – Quickly review version history and find out who changed what and when.
    Even more detailed information is available via auditing and can be viewed and searched with the Formtek Auditing Extension.
  • Download PDF Rendition – Any version of the document can be downloaded as a PDF rendition.  This is available from an option on view panel.  An additional PDF action can be added to the Version Browser and to other pages of Alfresco Share with the Formtek PDF Rendering extension. With PDF Rendering you can download watermarked version copies.
  • Current Version – Easily identify the most current release of a document
