2020: A Year of Both Change and Opportunity

By Dick Weisinger

Businesses are undergoing dramatic changes. Forrester predicts that 2020 will be a year where businesses redefine their organizational cultures, missions and values. It’s a lot of work, but it also offers a lot of opportunity to convert those changes into breakout growth.

Forrester says that “the atmosphere is charged with energy — energy around the consumer, emerging technologies, security threats. But also around getting the basics right and building on a string foundation. Sweeping changes are poised to take place.”

Driving the change are new technologies like AI and robotics, automation, consumer activism, regulation, and political and social tensions.

How will these changes affect business and technology leaders?

CIOs will focus on recruiting and training people with the right skills to be able to undertake tasks like digital transformation, automation, and robotics. Data attacks, like ransomware, will grow worse. Forrester advises businesses to consider doubling their data strategy budgets.

CMOs will focus on providing customer value, to improve both employee and customer experience, integrate technology, and bring purpose to the brand.

VCs are expected to scrutinize more closely business profitability.
