Compliance: No Shortage of Jobs

By Dick Weisinger

Accountant? Records Manager? Data Storage Engineer? Regulations like Sarbanes-Oxley and the EU Data Retention Law are making these jobs ones that are in very high demand. Robert Half is reporting that Internal Auditors and Public Accountants are some of the hottest jobs in 2008.

Since 2003, the number of accountants that have graduated each year has increased at a healthy clip. 64,000 accountants graduated in 2006-2007. Hiring at public firms for accountants has jumped by 83 percent and two-thirds of companies plan to increase their hiring in the upcoming years.

Also in high demand are data storage specialists. eGov reports strong demand for data storage specialists. Melanie Bosley of Ifftner Solutions said that “the necessity to ensure compliance with the rules whilst maintaining security has resulted in an increase in demand in specialists in the fields such as storage and security within IT departments.”
