Paperless Offices: Celebrate Today that Paper Processes are on the Decline
Today is World Paper Free Day. It’s a day AIIM says that businesses should use to think about “working smarter, decreasing the paper entry points, and how to improve your processes.”
Bob Larrivee, chief analyst at AIIM, said that “the once elusive concept of paper-free business operations is today a real possibility and real progress has been made over the past 12 months. It remains unrealistic to think that all business processes and transactions will be paper-free in the near future, but there are definitely certain processes where paper can be removed.”
The good news is that there has been a marked improvement in use of digital communications. Two-thirds of businesses say that they have seen an increase of inbound digital documents. 41 percent say that the amount of physical mail and hardcopy documents coming into their organizations is decreasing. Twenty-five percent of businesses now say that they’ve eliminated paper processes from their business.
Some of the other findings of the AIIM report on the benefits of going paperless include:
- Quick payback. Payback for implementing paperless processes came within just six months for 45 percent.
- More productivity. 42 percent said that paper processes made their businesses more productive.
- Faster Customer Response. 50 percent said that using paper processes sped up their communication with customers
