ECM is typically sold as a tool to automate and speed-up business processes, as a tool to centralize search and business intelligence, or as a way to consolidate and eliminate the sheer physical space taken up by paper documents.  ECM helps improve operational efficiency, customer experience, compliance, and risk management.  But lately people are declaring another benefit of ECM:  it is a green technology.

Sure everybody wants to be able to align and associate themselves with the current trend, and that’s obviously a large part of all the talk.  Anything that can be declared ‘green’ now is good.  In the case of ECM, there is some amount of truth to it.  Use of ECM can eliminate or reduce the amount of paper that is used.

MarketResearch.com estimates that the US financial services institutions spend $80 billion every year on manual processes, paper documents and mailing expenses.  ECM can eliminate some of those costs by reducing paper and improving business processes.  Think ‘Green’ — Think ECM.
