Enterprise Software: A Wave of Customizations About to Hit?
After years of multi-million dollar enterprise software customization projects, it had seemed that both vendors and customers were coming to the conclusion that large customization projects are costly and risky because they often fail or fall short of their original vision, not to mention that they often rely on technology that is often dated by the time that the customizations are complete. The alternative to custsomizations is to stick closer to standard software features, relying more on standard configurations. SaaS and on-Demand vendors are finding some success in promoting this idea.
But a recent survey by SoftServe of large enterprise companies reports that many companies are still aggressively pursuing custom software development.
- 71 percent said that their companies see new product and software development as a top priority for their organizations
- 49 percent have improving application usability for end users as a top priority
What type of applications and customization work is being planned?
- 42 percent said they are focused on Microsoft Dynamics/Sharepoint
- 38 percent are focused on Oracle applications
- 29 percent are focused on SAP
