Alfresco: Red Herring 100 Global Winner

By Dick Weisinger

Alfresco was named by Red Herring this week as one of eighteen software companies selected for their Red Herring 100 Global award. Eligible companies were those that had received a Red Herring 100 award at least once in the past three years.

The award is extremely well deserved. Alfresco is an Open Source ECM solution that is taking head-on proprietary software offerings from giants like IBM and EMC. They’re doing it in a way that matches feature for feature what’s found in the million-dollar proprietary offerings. And Alfresco is breaking new ground, keeping ECM relevant and current by integrating content management capabilities within some of the hottest technologies around, like Facebook, iGoogle, Google Gadgets, Adobe Flex, Skype, RSS Readers, TypePad, MediaWiki and WordPress. They’re enabling mashups and social networking. These integrations put Alfresco on the cutting edge of software in general, not to mention just ECM.

Their Google Gadgets for ECM allow pre-built and custom ECM portlets to be embedded within browser-based portal pages. There is a document portlet to publish a library of documents and digital assets, a my tasks portlet to keep track of workflow items assigned to you, and a space browser gadget for managing web content.

Alfresco now has more than 300 customers, including the American Stock Exchange, Boise Cascade, Christian Science Monitor, Informa and the Nebraska State Legislature.

Formtek is an Alfresco Gold partner and obviously very excited in the direction that the Alfresco platform is moving. Contact us to find out more about the flexibility of the Alfresco platform.
